Increase in bookings for Turkey by German tourists

This year, Germany’s leading tour operators have seen a significant increase in bookings for Turkey, with one in five customers choosing the country as their top destination. Despite this surge, Greece remains the main destination for another year, followed by Spain, Italy, and Egypt in the summer preferences.

TUI Germany director Stefan Baumert highlights the popularity of Mediterranean destinations, exceeding last year’s numbers. Antalya, Turkey, has emerged as the top choice for TUI customers, overtaking the traditionally popular destination of Mallorca.

Interestingly, Germany itself holds the fourth spot in the preferences of its own citizens for holiday destinations. Following a period of bad weather, many Germans sought guaranteed sunshine abroad, leading to a decrease in bookings within the country. Bavaria and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are among the top choices within Germany for those opting for domestic holidays.

The bankruptcy of FTI Touristik has also played a role in driving up bookings for major tour operators like TUI, with extra summer and winter bookings being offered to meet the high demand. Despite this, there is a stable demand for distant or exotic destinations, with the US, Canada, United Arab Emirates, and the Indian Ocean remaining popular choices.
