Guangzhou Baiyun Airport has introduced China’s first dedicated pet terminal

The facility is designed to meet the needs of China’s growing pet owner population and the expanding pet industry. Currently in a trial phase, it is set to officially open in May.

Covering 2,000 m² (21,530 ft²), the terminal features both indoor and outdoor spaces, offering services such as booking, check-in lanes, quarantine, and pet transport.

Travelers can use a mobile app to reserve services at the terminal. Pet airfare ranges between CNY 1,300 and CNY 2,000 ($178 to $275), with additional agency fees of CNY 300 to CNY 500. The terminal also includes a pet hotel that can accommodate up to 30 animals.

Earlier this year, China Southern Airlines, the primary carrier at Guangzhou Airport, became the first Chinese airline to offer pet owners the option of booking a seat for their pets in the cabin.

According to the Asia Pet Research Institute, China has around 187 million registered pet cats and dogs, with the domestic pet industry valued at roughly CNY 300 billion.
