Joby Aviation Partners with Virgin Atlantic to Revolutionize UK Air Travel

Joby Aviation (NYSE: JOBY) has partnered with Virgin Atlantic to launch its electric air taxi service in the UK. This collaboration builds on Joby’s agreement with Delta Air Lines, which holds a 49% stake in Virgin Atlantic, and aims to provide zero-emission, short-range flights connecting major UK airports and cities.

Virgin Atlantic will support Joby’s UK launch by marketing the service, working with regulators, and aiding infrastructure development. Passengers will be able to book flights via Virgin Atlantic’s app and website.

Joby’s air taxis, designed for up to four passengers and a pilot, can reach speeds of 200 mph and operate routes up to 100 miles. The service promises faster, quieter travel—such as an 8-minute flight from Heathrow to Canary Wharf versus 80 minutes by car—at prices comparable to premium ridesharing.

Joby has completed thousands of test flights globally and showcased its aircraft at the 2024 Farnborough Airshow. The company is also working with the UK Civil Aviation Authority to validate its aircraft for commercial use.
