Τhe island of Apocalypse is another name for Patmos. In picturesque Chora is the deep sacredness anddevoutness during the first fortnight in August festivities for Panagia Glikofilousa the most intense emotion.
The church is nowadays known as Diasozousa (savior) It was renamed in 1735 because, according to tradition she saved a man from Patmos called Eustratios Glikonikitas from pirates captivity.
Shoals visit the island for summer holiday in August and no one fails to visit this temple. In Patmos, however, is a great number of churches and monasteries dedicated to Mary. The chuch of Panagia Grava is in Chora and from the surrounding villages and settlements, the seat of Panagia tou Apolou in Kampos, the monastery of Virgin Mary in Livadi, Panagia Koumana in Skala and Panagia tou Geranou in homonymous peninsula stand out.
