Sifnos

An island with more than 200 churches, Sifnos has many temples, dedicated to the mother of the infant Jesus, spread in inland and seaside villages.

Platis Gialos, one of the largest and most popular beaches of Cyclades, hosts pilgrimage treasures dedicated to Virgin Mary.

There is an uninhabited island inside the bay, where the οnlly building is the church of Panagia Kitriani - the oldest ecclesiastic monument of the island — while, north at the peak of a hill, there is the monastery of Panagia tou Vounou. Built in 1813, the monastery offers unique view from its slaty precinct. Many furniture and vessels of the temple are donation from people of Sifnos origins, who live abroad.

On many other places, Virgin Mary is honored with important religious monuments. The churches of Panagia tis Kogxis, Panagia tis Ammou, Panagia tou Mpali are on Artemonas.

Near village Eksampela is the men monastery of Panagia Vrisiani. The church of Panagia Aggeloktisti is in Katavati, where the road to Profitis llias starts.
